It’s not every day that one of our projects ends up in the pages of a respected industry magazine, so this is news we’re especially proud to share. Our recent roof replacement in Three Tree Point, Washington was featured in the July/August 2025 issue of Western Roofing Magazine. The article, Sun Power, takes a closer look at how the home’s new roof blends the timeless look of cedar shakes with the efficiency of solar power.

Featured Project: Synthetic Shake Roof in Three Tree Point, Washington

The home sits in a scenic part of Three Tree Point, just steps from Puget Sound. The original cedar shake roof had seen better days, and the homeowners knew it was time for an upgrade. Their goals were clear:

  • Keep the warm, classic look of cedar shakes
  • Choose a roofing material that would stand up to the Northwest’s weather
  • Integrate solar panels into the design without compromising the roof’s appearance

The coastal location made durability and weather resistance just as important as looks.

Roofing Solution: DaVinci Synthetic Cedar Shake in Aged Cedar

To meet all of those goals, we installed DaVinci Roofscapes Multi-Width Synthetic Cedar Shake in Aged Cedar. This product offers the texture and depth of real cedar shakes, but with performance benefits that natural wood can’t match. It’s recyclable, carries a Class A fire rating, and comes with a lifetime limited warranty.

The process began with the removal of the old cedar shakes and the installation of new fascia boards. Because the project included solar, we worked closely with Artisan Electric to plan exactly where the panels would go. Our crew installed ice and water shield in every area where the solar mounts would penetrate the roof, helping ensure a watertight seal for years to come.

We also replaced the gutters with new 6K systems and gutter screens, which will handle heavy seasonal rain and reduce the need for frequent cleanings.

The finished result is a roof that combines:

  • Eco-friendly materials that are fully recyclable
  • Fire safety with a Class A rating
  • Low maintenance without sacrificing curb appeal
  • Long-term protection backed by a strong manufacturer’s warranty

Why the Project Stood Out

This project caught the attention of Western Roofing Magazine because it successfully combined two priorities that don’t always go hand-in-hand: timeless style and forward-thinking energy efficiency. The Aged Cedar shakes offer the charm of traditional cedar without the upkeep, while the solar panels give the home a renewable energy source that blends into the overall design.

Behind the Scenes

The roof’s layout was straightforward, but the success of the installation came down to coordination and planning. Working in sync with the solar installation team meant every detail — from flashing placement to underlayment sequencing — was handled with the final solar setup in mind. We also scheduled the work to match the weather, an important step when you’re this close to Puget Sound.
