Distinctive and Eco-Friendly Malarkey Roof in Issaquah, Washington
The Three Tree Roofing team is just coming off Tiger Mountain Road in Issaquah. This roof has some fun features, Malarkey composition shingles and a Weather Bond 60 mil TPO membrane in bronze, which is ideal for the flatter sections of the roof. We needed this special material; either TPO or PVC would work here, but we chose TPO because it interacts better with petroleum-based products, creating a durable roofing system. In contrast, PVC and shingles aren't the best match due to potential chemical reactions that can occur during the installation of a TPO flat roof. This combination of materials works well for the low-pitch areas, allowing us to install the composition roofing material effectively.
Everything is designed to overlap, ensuring that water flows from the composition shingles onto the TPO and then off the roof into the gutters. We also replaced the skylights in these flat sections. Since there isn't an attic space, we installed the insulation on the rooftop, using Polyiso insulation with an ice and water shield beneath it and plywood on top, creating a layered "sandwich" of materials.
