New Composite Shingle Roof in Medina, Washington

Three Tree Roofing completed this really cool roofing project in Medina featuring a CertainTeed Landmark Black Walnut roof. The shingle has a rich mix of blacks and dark browns that give the roof a thicker, more dimensional appearance. We really like the way this shingle looks with its deep, rich color.

When removing the old roofing, we discovered that some of the wood around the skylights needed replacing. Skylights can be common areas for leaks on older roofs, so addressing the surrounding wood and flashing was an important part of the project. The homeowner liked the skylights so much that he decided to add additional ones, which was a great improvement. Installing additional skylights while the roof is being replaced is the perfect opportunity to tie everything together and keep all work covered under the roofing warranty. We replaced the existing skylights, framed in the curbs, custom-flashed each one, and installed high-quality, low-E, argon-filled skylights. The new skylights provide an updated look while allowing more natural light into the home.

This roof also needed a chimney cricket to help divert water around the chimney. A properly constructed cricket helps prevent water from collecting and standing behind the chimney, which could otherwise contribute to leaks and premature deterioration of both the roof and chimney. Chimney areas are among the most common locations for roof leaks, so installing a cricket is an important step in protecting the new roofing system and the roof's long-term performance and longevity. Rather than having the homeowner worry about the problem, we addressed it during the roof installation, doing it once and doing it right.

We also installed new gutters and downspouts as part of the project. By completing the roofing, skylight, chimney, gutter, and drainage work together, we provided the homeowner with a complete roofing system, all covered under our warranty.

This Medina roofing project shows how important it is to look beyond the shingles when replacing a roof. From the roof deck and skylights to chimney protection, ventilation, gutters, and downspouts, every detail matters. Taking care of these components during the roof replacement gives the homeowner a complete system designed for long-term performance.
